DSC_0065You wait quiet and curious

with eyes that hold the universe.

Happiness is a wagging tail,

curled up in sunlight on the couch, a warm body—

an everyday desire to be close.

Even though I’ve filled your bowl,

you search for crumbs in shadows.

I call your name and you come running,

hoping, mistaking that there’s more.

Oh silly beggar, when will you be full?

Where have you hidden all my words,

unfiltered dreams floating in the dust?

Can’t you understand or be affected?

You are safe; this is your home—

love and family in abundance.

Oh that You would speak

And tell me all Your thoughts.
